HOPEFUL START FOUNDATION
"Building A Better Future"
The Palo Verde Valley Hopeful Start Foundation
celebrates its fourth year and looks forward to
its future. Dedicated to the education and the
sobriety of those trying to overcome addiction,
PVVHSF leads meeting, conducts workshops and
manages a sober living home in Blythe,
California. Since April of 2004, 3800 adults and
teens have attended meeting and almost 4000
volunteer hours have been logged. The Foundation
continues to add supporters and volunteers as
our community becomes aware of what we are able
to achieve. The PVVHSF also works with Riverside
Mental Health and Drug Court as well as
community service clubs to gather financial
support to keep our program for those in
the community who need help with drugs and
alcohol.
As part of each individual's recovery effort,
they spend time attending AA and NA meetings and
participating in the 16-week course of Recovery
and Education. The PVVHSF has a strong following
of men and women of all ages who help themselves
by helping others. The sober living home
provides and environment for up to five men to
continue their sobriety while working to put
their lives and their families back together.
The PVVHSF Meeting Center at 531 West Hobsonway
in Blythe, CA has been established as a
permanent meeting place. Meetings for teens and
adults are held on a regular schedule on Monday,
Wednesday and Friday. Other AA and NA groups
also use the facility.
The Board of Directors of the PVVHSF is
currently made up of seven members who live and
work in Blythe, California. Each board member is
also has a connection to the drug community that
exists in our valley. This gives the board a
real understanding of what is faced by those
seeking recovery. There is also a high level of
commitment on the part of each board member to
the foundation and its success.
Few are as passionate about recovery as those
recovering! So much about drug use and recovery
seems like a lot of hype and until you
experience it first hand it is hard to grasp the
depth of pain and the far-reaching consequences
that drug abuse can cause. We are proud and
excited about the progress made so far and we
look forward to a healthy future.
